DP RUTO DISAPPOINTS KISUMU RESIDENTS

Deputy President William Ruto, who was expected to grace a fundraiser aimed at aiding farmers in Kisumu East, did not make it for unclear reasons even after heavy preparations to receive him.
The DP however sent Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Will Bet to represent him.
This move however did not go down well with Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo who did not hesitate to express her displeasure.
"I want you to turn your cameras to show the multitude of people who came to receive the DP. They are disappointed," she said.
"Let him not fear to come and see us, the people of Kisumu East," she added.
The Senator insisted that all she wanted was development for the people of Kisumu and that they wanted to whisper something to the DP himself.
"All I want for the people of Kisumu is change and development," the senator said.
"I will tell you without fear or favor that we are disappointed. We welcome you but and we are aware you are the one in charge but we had things to whisper to our DP, " she told the Cabinet Secretary.
Mr Bet however defended the DP saying he would not come because something urgent came up.
"He fears nothing. He should have come but something urgent came up, "he said.

KENYA: WHY JUBILEE, NASA HAVE FOCUSED CAMPAIGNS ON 5 ZONES

The Jubilee Party and opposition's National Super Alliance have held more rallies in five regions than in any other part of the country, convinced the areas could hold the key to a victory in the August 8 General Election.

The Coast, former Western province, Narok and Kajiado counties, Kisii and Baringo have emerged as the areas where the election could be lost or won if the frequency with which both political sides have held rallies there is anything to go by.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his main challenger Raila Odinga have both visited western Kenya six and five times respectively in just one month, signifying how crucial the voting bloc could be to both sides.

SIX TIMES

In the month of June alone, Mr Odinga has followed in President Kenyatta's footsteps, visiting each of the region's five counties, hoping to consolidate the base that has over time been unable to unite behind the elusive Luhya unity.

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have cumulatively campaigned in the Coast three times from the end of May, seeking to get a slice of votes in an area that overwhelming cast its lot with Mr Odinga in 2013Narok and Kajiado counties have also become a play ground for the vote seeking machines, with Jubilee visiting the former five times and the latter twice.

BARINGO COUNTY

Jubilee and Nasa have similarly visited Nyamira and Kisii counties twice and thrice respectively. The two rivals have campaigned twice in Baringo County.

On Wednesday, Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe said the President and his deputy have been targeting areas that were opposition strongholds in 2013 but have since showed signs of warming up to the government.He named the areas as western Kenya, Coast and Kisii counties.It is the potential for harvesting votes, particularly in former hostile areas, which we can now convert into swing areas.You can see what we are doing in western Kenya, Coast and Kisii areas," he said on the telephone. Regarding Narok County, he said the party had eliminated the obstacle which cost them votes in the last elections.

SPLITTING VOTES

"Narok is now okay because our challenge last time was splitting votes between TNA and URP. Now we are one party," he said.

Nasa's national campaign committee executive director Kibisu Kabatesi explained that the number of rallies in a region were determined by information received from campaign team coordinators across the country."We draw the campaign schedule based on the analysis we have made based on information from our team on the ground," he said.The Nairobi office, he explained, operates on a 24-hour basis and always communicates with the regional leaders.

ATTEND RALLY

Before the principals attend a rally in any place, they meet with area leaders to fine-tune the relevant message for the voters. In his vote hunting forays in western Kenya, President Kenyatta visited Bungoma on June 11, Busia (June 14), Kakamega (June 17), and Vihiga on June 23, while Mr Odinga toured the same counties on June 23, 25 and 24 respectively. "In 2013, you slipped from our fingers and voted for the other side. This time in 2017, we will not let you vote differently from us. We are not going to let you stay in the cold," Deputy President William Ruto has consistently told western voters.

11 Secondary School Girls Suspended for Sneaking in Boys to have Orgies

11 female students from St. Mary Goretty’s Dede High School have been sent home for engaging in sex orgies with boys from Manyatta Secondary School.
As reported by media outlets, about five to ten boys are believed to have hiked 34 kilometres on Sunday night to the girls’ dormitory which houses about 100 students.
According to the Star, teachers at Dede High School discovered there was an orgy after girls started giggling and “acting funny” the next day.
“The orgy was planned by Form Four students who allowed the boys in the hostel, and only left after midnight,” a girl from St Mary Goretty’s who has also been suspended told reporters.
The school’s management believes the midnight orgies are a regular occurrence and are planned through mobile phones which are prohibited.
An administration official said 11 girls were suspended on Monday and are expected back on July 17 to face the school’s board of governors for disciplinary action.
“Unfortunately, we did not hear commotion from the hostel throughout the period the orgy was going on.
“Teachers only got wind of it during the school assembly when some girls acted funny and appeared to be overexcited. Upon investigation, the sad truth started to unravel,” the administrator said.
St Mary’s Principal Lucy Odera declined to comment saying investigations are ongoing.
Evans Baraza, Principal of Manyatta High School, termed the incident “shameful” and said they too are investigating.

The National Super Alliance is the most preferred party followed by Jubilee in Nairobi, an opinion poll now says. It also highlights that if elections were to be held today, Senator Mike Sonko and Governor Evans Kidero would tie for the city's top job. The trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) research conducted between July 1 and 2, says that eight out of seventeen constituencies are NASA strongholds, six Jubilee's strongholds and three others being hotly contested.

Ruaraka, Kibra, Embakasi South, Dagoreti North, Embakasi Central, Langata, Mathare and Embakasi East constituencies have all been branded NASA strong holds. Jubilee enjoys majority support in Starehe, Dagoreti South, Roysambu, Kamukunji, Embakasi North and Kasarani. Westlands, Makadara and Embakasi West are all up for grabs with just 32 days to the August polls. "The support for NASA has gradually increased since July 2016 and it is strongest now compared to Jubilee's support which has also been on the rise but has recently dropped," said Maggie Ireri, TIFA director.

According to the poll, NASA's support has gone up from 38 percent in July 2016 to 47 percent in February 2017 and now stands at 56 percent as of July 2017. Jubilee's support went up from 38 percent in July 2016 to 42 percent in February 2017 but then dropped to 35 percent as of July this year. The Gubernatorial battle for the city's top job has seen Senator Mike Sonko and Incumbent Governor Evans Kidero go neck to neck with the latter garnering 43 percent preference and the former 44 percent. Peter Kenneth is said to enjoy a 4 percent preference followed by Miguna Miguna with a 1 percent fighting chance while the undecided Nairobians account for 8 percent. "Since the margin difference is less than three percent then it is safe to say that if elections were held today, Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko would tie," said Ireri. Ireri said that out of the sampled 829 respondents, Sonko was doing well because he attracted supporters from NASA, Jubilee as well as other parties compared to Kidero whose support was predominantly from NASA supporters. Peter Kenneth enjoys two percent support from Jubilee and another two from NASA. TIFA director said that dynamics for Peter Kenneth who enjoyed a 20 percent preference changed after the Jubilee party nominations which saw him loose to Senator Mike Sonko. On the flipside, the supporters felt that despite Sonko picking Polycarp Igathe as his running mate, he had no expertise or skills to manage Nairobi and his educational level was low. Additionally, the Senatorial race puts Jubilee's Johnson Sakaja as supreme having garnered a 39 percent preference followed by NASA's Edwin Sifuna with 28 percent. Ramesh Gorasia, Suzanne Lenge and Zachary Momanyi enjoy 1 percent preference with the undecided lot accounting for 29 percent. "Both attract support from all parties but Sifuna's entry into the race was a bit late giving Sakaja an advantage," said Ireri. NASA's Esther Passaris enjoys a (57) percent preference as the city's women representative followed by incumbent Rachel Shebesh with (25) percent. Interestingly, one percent of those interviewed would vote for radio personality Maina Kageni, Nadya Khan and another one percent preferring wiper's Rahab Ndambuki. The undecided electorate accounts for (15) percent. By virtue of Political party preference, Esther Passaris attracts (42) percent preference from NASA, (11) percent from Jubilee and 4 percent from other parties. Rachel Shebesh enjoys (4) percent from NASA (19)percent from Jubilee and one percent from other parties. "Last minute alliances and voter turnout are key determinant factors and could change the political platform," concluded Ireri.

Kalenjins don’t trust Ruto, Gideon tells Uhuru

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi yesterday said Rift Valley people no longer trust Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta should now deal with them directly.

In an exclusive interview with the Star, the Kanu chairman said Ruto no longer commands the respect and support of many people in the region, especially the Kalenjin "who find him arrogant and condescending".

The Rift Valley has long been considered Ruto's turf but his support is no longer rock solid. He and Moi are engaged in a supremacy battle to control the vote bloc. Both have declared they will run for President in 2022.

Moi said Ruto has created many enemies and pushed away many people who supported Jubilee in the last election.

"If the President wants votes from this region, he should come to the people directly himself," he advised.

The senator spoke on the same day Uhuru and Ruto toured the North Rift region of Nandi where they launched development projects and denounced critics.

"Ignore those people who come here to tell you we have done nothing. Stay in Jubilee for development," Ruto said at in Kaptembo in Nandi, where he toured with the President.

Moi said the fact that Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet and close ally Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have been linked to the NYS scandal was reason enough for Uhuru to be worried. The allegations have caused disquiet in the region, he said.

While Ruto has at times dismissed Moi as a joke, the Kanu leader has been slowly but steadily eroding Ruto's support in the populous South Rift Kalenjin region. This is especially so in Kericho and Bomet where the senator is working with Governor Isaac Ruto who heads the CCM party.

The Baringo lawmaker predictablyenjoys the most support in his own county and neighbouring West Pokot.

During the Kericho Senate by-elections in February this year, Kanu came a close second and has since popularised itself in the region, promising a clean sweep there next year.

Two weeks ago Ruto was booed in Nandi where he was inspecting development projects.

Yesterday Moi asked Ruto to stop insulting him and his father, retired President Daniel Moi, and instead respond to real issues about his leadership style.

"He should make a public apology," the senator said.

Kanu secretary general Nick Salat joined the attack yesterday, accusing Ruto of disrespecting other elected Rift leaders.

"What Ruto is doing is unacceptable and we will not allow that to continue. We are telling the President to take note that his deputy is fast losing his popularity and will not be able to marshal the votes he did in the last election," Salat told the Star on the phone.

Meanwhile, President Kenyatta told Nandi residents the Jubilee government's infrastructure projects and other developments will not be slowed by the opposition's noise.

The President told off the opposition over claims his administration has done little in development, saying the country has witnessed more development projects in the last three years than at any other time in its history.

While our opponents are devoting all their energies to how to share political positions, our focus has all a long been on implementing projects including infrastructure, health, energy, agriculture and education because our main aim is to lift the lives of Kenyans,” he said.

Uhuru launched tarmacking of key roads to link Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties.

He flagged off upgrading of the Kaptembo - Rivatex road and the Kaiboi-Kipkaren River Junction roads at Kaptembo in Nandi. The two will cost Sh3.7 billion.

The President also launched tarmacking of a road running through Danger to Kimondi and Chemuswa.

He said the government intends to construct 200km tarmacked roads in Nandi, compared to the 70km done since independence.

The administration is determined to construct tarmacked roads countrywide to attract investors and create jobs for youth, Uhuru said.

Saying the time for empty talk and political rhetoric is long gone, the President said Kenyans will vote for Jubilee because they have witnessed concrete progress everywhere.

He called "baseless lies" the opposition's assertions that the Kenya Cooperative Creameries has been sold.

Some people thrive on lies for political mileage but they forget the truth has a way of always coming to the fore, Kenyatta said.

The government has allocated Sh500 million to KCC to ensure dairy farmers are paid their dues, he said.Kenyatta said the Last Mile electricity connectivity project has increased the number of Nandi households connected to power from 16 per cent in 2013 to 32 per cent in 2016.

We have also set aside Sh1 billion to step up electricity connections in Nandi county to reach the national average of 70 per cent," he said. The same is happening everywhere, the President said.

Even in Bondo, Raila Odinga  neighbors are enjoying electricity connected by the Jubilee government, he said.

DP Ruto defended Jubilee development record, saying Kenyans will vote for it in the next election because of life is improving everywhere.
