Kalenjins don’t trust Ruto, Gideon tells Uhuru

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi yesterday said Rift Valley people no longer trust Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta should now deal with them directly.
In an exclusive interview with the Star, the Kanu chairman said Ruto no longer commands the respect and support of many people in the region, especially the Kalenjin "who find him arrogant and condescending".
The Rift Valley has long been considered Ruto's turf but his support is no longer rock solid. He and Moi are engaged in a supremacy battle to control the vote bloc. Both have declared they will run for President in 2022.
Moi said Ruto has created many enemies and pushed away many people who supported Jubilee in the last election.
"If the President wants votes from this region, he should come to the people directly himself," he advised.
The senator spoke on the same day Uhuru and Ruto toured the North Rift region of Nandi where they launched development projects and denounced critics.
"Ignore those people who come here to tell you we have done nothing. Stay in Jubilee for development," Ruto said at in Kaptembo in Nandi, where he toured with the President.
Moi said the fact that Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet and close ally Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have been linked to the NYS scandal was reason enough for Uhuru to be worried. The allegations have caused disquiet in the region, he said.
While Ruto has at times dismissed Moi as a joke, the Kanu leader has been slowly but steadily eroding Ruto's support in the populous South Rift Kalenjin region. This is especially so in Kericho and Bomet where the senator is working with Governor Isaac Ruto who heads the CCM party.
The Baringo lawmaker predictablyenjoys the most support in his own county and neighbouring West Pokot.
During the Kericho Senate by-elections in February this year, Kanu came a close second and has since popularised itself in the region, promising a clean sweep there next year.
Two weeks ago Ruto was booed in Nandi where he was inspecting development projects.

Yesterday Moi asked Ruto to stop insulting him and his father, retired President Daniel Moi, and instead respond to real issues about his leadership style.
"He should make a public apology," the senator said.
Kanu secretary general Nick Salat joined the attack yesterday, accusing Ruto of disrespecting other elected Rift leaders.
"What Ruto is doing is unacceptable and we will not allow that to continue. We are telling the President to take note that his deputy is fast losing his popularity and will not be able to marshal the votes he did in the last election," Salat told the Star on the phone.
Meanwhile, President Kenyatta told Nandi residents the Jubilee government's infrastructure projects and other developments will not be slowed by the opposition's noise.
The President told off the opposition over claims his administration has done little in development, saying the country has witnessed more development projects in the last three years than at any other time in its history.
While our opponents are devoting all their energies to how to share political positions, our focus has all a long been on implementing projects including infrastructure, health, energy, agriculture and education because our main aim is to lift the lives of Kenyans,รข€ he said.
Uhuru launched tarmacking of key roads to link Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties.
He flagged off upgrading of the Kaptembo - Rivatex road and the Kaiboi-Kipkaren River Junction roads at Kaptembo in Nandi. The two will cost Sh3.7 billion.
The President also launched tarmacking of a road running through Danger to Kimondi and Chemuswa.
He said the government intends to construct 200km tarmacked roads in Nandi, compared to the 70km done since independence.
The administration is determined to construct tarmacked roads countrywide to attract investors and create jobs for youth, Uhuru said.
Saying the time for empty talk and political rhetoric is long gone, the President said Kenyans will vote for Jubilee because they have witnessed concrete progress everywhere.
He called "baseless lies" the opposition's assertions that the Kenya Cooperative Creameries has been sold.
Some people thrive on lies for political mileage but they forget the truth has a way of always coming to the fore, Kenyatta said.
The government has allocated Sh500 million to KCC to ensure dairy farmers are paid their dues, he said.Kenyatta said the Last Mile electricity connectivity project has increased the number of Nandi households connected to power from 16 per cent in 2013 to 32 per cent in 2016.
We have also set aside Sh1 billion to step up electricity connections in Nandi county to reach the national average of 70 per cent," he said. The same is happening everywhere, the President said.
Even in Bondo, Raila Odinga  neighbors are enjoying electricity connected by the Jubilee government, he said.
DP Ruto defended Jubilee development record, saying Kenyans will vote for it in the next election because of life is improving everywhere.

JUBILEE LEADERS HIT OUT AT RUTO

A section of Jubilee Party leaders have said that the recent rally held in Bomet County by opposition leaders will no sway their supporters.
The leaders say Bomet is Jubilee’s stronghold, and will vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta as a bloc come 2017 polls.
The rally was held to welcome Governor Isaac Ruto who was in South Africa for specialised treatment following a scuffle during a football match in the county, which left him with an injury below his right eye.
It was attended by Amani National Congress Leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kisumu's Jack Ranguma, ODM Chairman John Mbadi and a number of Jubilee rebel MPs.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso, who has declared interest in Ruto’s seat, said the outspoken governor had joined the opposition alone.
Laboso maintained that Bomet is a Jubilee zone and the Chama Cha Mashinani party leader cannot change that.
“We thought it was a prayer rally but it seems it was a political rally. We are wondering if the governor was truly injured or he was just playing games. Bomet County is a Jubilee zone and the governor cannot continue lying that he supports President Kenyatta when he is befriending the opposition,” she said.
Another Bomet gubernatorial hopeful, Dr Julius Kones, said the rally would not change the minds of his supporters ahead of 2017 general election.
“Most people have not been swayed. They will still remain with Jubilee but we will redouble our efforts to ensure no one leaves.”
Governor Ruto had accused the Jubilee Party of forcing Bomet residents to support them.
He has been on record saying Kenyans will vote out the Jubilee administration in 2017 polls.

Back from the dead: Controversial preacher claims to have brought a little boy back to life

A controversial pastor who once insisted God had blessed him with a private jet that no one else can see has now claimed to have brought a little boy back from the dead.
Bizarre footage shot inside a church in the South African city of Pretoria shows healers purportedly reviving a youngster they say had been declared dead by doctors.
The boy can be seen hanging lifeless and floppy in the arms of prophet Shepherd Bushiri.
As the prophet stumbles around holding the boy, the youngster's head flops limply back and forth, with the supposed resurrecting service appearing to tire the pastor.
Other men go to support Bushiri as he falls to the floor before the watching congregation of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church, who hold their hand out towards the boy as if helping to heal him.
The footage, which has gone viral, then shows the young boy being blessed with holy anointing oil, named the Lion of Judah.
We do not see the boy wake up but the footage then cuts to the youngster sitting on his father's knee, alive and awake.
He is handed a commemorative cloth which claims he was healed by the Malawian prophet Bushiri, who is well known for his controversial claims and lively Sunday services.
He previously claimed that God granted him with a private jet that no one was allowed to see but him.
He has also released a video in which he purports to "walk on air" - a claim rubbished as "fake" by beady-eyed viewers who pointed to the shadow of a man supporting him.

I was misquoted, Ranguma says on reports ODM rallies slowing Kisumu growth

I was misquoted, Ranguma says on reports ODM rallies slowing Kisumu growth

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma with World Bank representative Frank Twagira (L) during the launch of the e-license platform, December 7, 2016.

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has dismissed claims that he cannot effectively serve residents because of numerous ODM rallies that he must attend.
Ranguma said he was quoted out of context but added he is a life member of the party, keen on implementing its manifesto on matters development.
Sections of the media reported the Governor as saying the rallies were to blame for the slow development in his county.
Ranguma said the comments could easily be interpreted to mean that ODM is anti-development, "which is not the case in Kisumu".
"Anyone issuing such remarks is just being petty and is out to malign my name and that of the party," he said in a statement on Thursday.
"As an ODM Governor, it is the manifesto of the party that I implement in Kisumu."
Ranguma further said that the county, being the centre of focus for rating the performance of devolved units, cannot afford to lag behind in development.
"And while ensuring we grow the county's economy, I also work hard to ensure our leader Raila Odinga captures the Presidency in 2017," he added.
He urged party members and his supporters to "ignore such irresponsible reporting".
The Governor made the comments a day after the county launched the Sh15 million electronic trade licensing (e-TL) system in partnership with World Bank.
Ranguma said the system will help the business fraternity in his county access and submit trade licence and public health certificate application forms online.
He said the system is aimed at boosting revenue collection and easing the process of doing business by enhancing accountability, transparency and efficiency.
Ranguma further noted that the e-TL, formerly known as the Single Business Permit (e-SBP), will transform ways of doing business in Kisumu.
Kisumu was recently ranked by the World Bank as the best in terms of ease of doing business.
World Bank representative Frank Twagira on Wednesday said the county was among those where approvals for building plans are obtained quickly.
"Devoid of bureaucracies, the digital system has reduced the human tendency to delay processes," he said. "This is besides promoting an environment that encourages external investment."
