hopes to inspire more dark-skinned girls to embrace their beauty A 20-year-old
girl from Pretoria, South Africa has overcome bullying in school to emerge as a
finalist in a major beauty pageant. Tinstswalo Mnishi's schoolmates often
bullied her for her dark skin, which they perceived as less beautiful. Some
even said that "she could blend with the dark." In an interview with
IOL News, she said: “I was bullied because of being too dark, and that left me
with low self-esteem. I never believed in myself. The children at school made
me feel like an outcast. However, she overcame that and, with encouragement
from a friend, entered the Miss Regal International South Africa 2017 pageant.
To her pleasant surprise, she has made it as a finalist. The winner will be
chosen on September 26.
Her story is even more inspirational
because she was forced to drop out of her fashion design studies because her
parents could not afford the fees
Mnishi hopes to inspire other
dark-skinned girls to believe in themselves and to be confident in their skin
tone
